Transcending the tangible and diving into the spirit, this project focuses on how we perceive the world and how it perceives our existence. This vision guided the transformation of an abandoned abbey into a meditation center—a sanctuary designed to harmonize space and soul, fostering introspection, balance, and mindfulness. The essence of the design lies in the thoughtful integration of architectural elements and sensory experiences, creating spaces that connect individuals with their inner selves and the surrounding environment

Repurposed from the church’s existing structure, the pointed arches hold profound spiritual symbolism. Traditionally associated with the sanctity of space, they represent a connection between earth and the divine, guiding the eye upward toward enlightenment. Their sharp angles and verticality evoke aspiration and transcendence, inspiring introspection and spiritual elevation. The repeating arches create a rhythmic sequence, mirroring the meditative breath and fostering a state of mindfulness and focus. The hall framed by these arches symbolizes a spiritual journey, culminating in the meditation room—a sacred space of calm and reflection.

The presence of the ruined walls of the abbey embodies the weight of the past, grounding the space in history. The blurred view of the sky through the new roof elevates the spiritual essence beyond the physical form. As we meditate, we elevate our souls, supported by our physical being—like stone and glass in harmony—on a journey of self-discovery.
